About the Golf Outing

• How did the golf outing get started?

In 1998 and 1999 Larry and Della Deau Owners of Doze Inn Restaurant on Chute Pond in Mountain Wi started this outing as a fun thing to do in the month of March on the ice. In 2000 an employee and good friend was diagnosed with Cancer, which was the first-time cancer was a term in their life. Feeling helpless and wanting to do something for her they decided to move the golf outing to the fall of the year and to a golf course and so the Doze Inn Benefit Golf Outing was born. This was Larry and Della’s way of raising money to help with expenses that are not covered under any insurance, such as gas money to travel to and from appointments, missed wages at employment, co-payments for medication. This is a small community that come out and support our family and friends in their time of need.

• How many people/families has the event supported over the 20 years?

29 Families have benefited from the Doze Inn Golf Outing

• Is it always two individuals/families?

In 2008 it was agreed that the outing was raising enough money to benefit 2 individuals.

• How much funds has the event raised in the past 19 years?

Since 2000 the Doze Inn Benefit Golf outing has raised an average of $100,000.

• How does the fundraiser pick the individual/family it supports for the given year's event?

The Benefit Golf outing picks individuals that are local residences, Suring area and who are going through Cancer treatment, some are survivors and are still here today to tell their story, some unfortunately did not make it to the outing or shortly after.

• Is there a goal for this year's funds?

There a specific number, any money raised at the outing to help these recipients/families is all we can expect, we do rely on people’s donations to keep our expenses down so more money taken in goes to the recipients.

• What is the average attendance?

Since 2008 to present we average about 22 teams of 4 golfers and around 150 – 200 people total at the event. The first few years of the outing was about 40 to 50 people in attendance.

• Why should people attend?

If anyone has known a friend or family member that has battled cancer, the feeling of helplessness comes into play, not knowing how to help is the worst feeling, this Benefit is the best way a person to donate time and money and know that your time and money will directly benefit an actual person that you know, it is a good feeling.

• What can people expect when they attend the event?

It is an all around fun day, it is a good day to get together with friends and family and have a relaxing day of golf, we have a lot of laughs, good food and a chance to win a lot of great donated prizes.

The registration form can be filled out and sent in if you wish to donate a Hole Sponsor or if you are not golfing and you wish to buy a meal.
